Car Import & Registration & ITV
Import or removal goods? Any registration of a vehicle in Spain is subject to a special tax. The amount of this tax depends on the age of the vehicle and the emission values. With newer and bigger vehicles this amount can be very high. Under certain conditions one can be exempt from this tax. If the vehicle is re-registered by the owner himself and the owner intends to drive this vehicle here in Spain, an exemption from the special tax is possible. Required documents for the registration of a vehicle in Spain for EU vehicles: With import: For the car: - EU - Certificate of conformity - Vehicle registration certificate - Changes to the original version (trailer coupling, modification of the suspension, etc.) must be entered in the vehicle letter or a general operating permit in the original must be presented. Winter tyres are not permitted in Spain. For the person: - Identity document (passport or identity card) in the original or notarially certified copy - N.I.E. number (valid typed document) - Proof of residence in Spain (registration certificate of the municipality or purchase document of a real estate) In the event of a change of residence: For the car: - EU certificate of conformity - Vehicle registration certificate - If changes are made to the vehicle (trailer coupling, modification of the suspension, etc.), a general operating permit in the original must be presented. - Contract of sale of the vehicle For the person: - Identity document (passport or identity card) in the original or notarized copy - Valid certificate of NIE number or green document of entry in European Register with NIE number not older than 2 months - Registration certificate of the municipality in Spain - Registration certificate with date of arrival of the municipality in Germany in which the last year of registration was registered How long does the re-registration take? If all documents are together, about 10 - 14 days. The vehicle itself only has to be presented to the TÜV. Everything else is an administrative matter. The vehicle can be used normally until the process is completed and the number plates are handed over. Then a Spanish Insurance can be taken out, the number plates can be affixed and the car can be deregistered in Germany. This information also applies to other nationalities and vehicles from Switzerland or Austria. In the case of Swiss vehicles, customs formalities must be completed, although you can also be exempted from customs duties if you change your place of residence. Only the processing fees for customs clearance are incurred.
